![]() ![]() ![]() It is produced with the grapes Grillo, Catarratto, Inzolia, and Damaschino in varying proportions depending on the style of Marsala desired. ![]() Marsala is an Italian fortified wine from Sicily. Can You Substitute Marsala Wine For Madeira Wine?.I used hiking boots but can be done in trainers (in Dec), bring water/food, sunscreen!!!, and of course a camera, Enjoy. Couple of short tunnels so take a headtorch/phone. The path is paved and very easy to follow so don’t worry too much about a gps. Take the long route if you can, even if you only go one way because the best views are on the way. Grab a table outside the café, order a coffee, and look back over the mountains at a job well done. The trail is easier on the way back but you still have some elevation to climb especially at the end so keep the game face on. No one goes up it either so have your lunch there,Ĭome back down the same way and then start heading back to Pico Areeiro, now that it is later in the day you’ll get some cool pics with more light shining on the mountains. Get yourself fired right up that which takes about 15 minutes, You’ll get some amazing views of both the valley at one side and the sea at the other. So follow the paved route right around the back of it, and look out for a small path, its not as obvious as the other paths but you’ll see it. Look up and see the peak right in front of you, that’s what you want to get up. Now, here is a little tip if you are feel you have some energy in he tank, head back down to the toilet area and head along the path to Teixeira (signposted and easy to see), this is where the short route starts. I arrived with only 2 people at the top so it was very calm, although I think they came the short way as they looked a lot less sweaty than me, It took me about 2 hours, but I did a bit of yapping at a view point and also took loads of pics. Maybe a little steep at the end after the toilets but its short. The hardest part are the steep metal steps in the middle but once you are past that the route is fairly easy going. The trail has a few ups and downs but in general is feels like a U shape. Don’t hang about and you will have most of the trail to yourself. When you arrive head up the steps at the café and over to the right, across the road, and behind the rock, this is the best place for sunrise (it’s a 2 minute walk).Īfter you take a couple of hundred pictures, head back over to the back of the café, up the ramp, where you will see a signpost for Pico Ruivo. I would recommend arriving just before the crack of dawn to see the sun rise from beneath a sea of clouds (weather permitting), also loads of parking at that time. You drive directly to the start of the trail at Pico Areeiro. This is a review of the longer route from Pico Areeiro to Pico Ruivo. A lot shorter, but it is an hour's drive from Pico del Arieiro and there is no public transport. The entire hike then takes 12 km and 6 hours (is not a punishment Therefore, would not recommend for children.) Or by hiking to Achada do Teixeira 2.8km. So you have to hike the all the way back. (About 500m before the top there is a small cafe bring your own food!) Afterwards it gets warmer (lose some layers) and you especially have to climb up to the top of the Pico Ruivo. The last part of the trail is also about 2km. For most of trail this part of the hike is flat. The second part of the trail starts after 2,2km. It starts at the Pico del Arieiro where you walk in the clouds in high altitude. ![]() The Pico del Arieiro to Pico Ruivo hike via the PR1 Vereda do Areeiro Hiking trail. This hike qualifies as one of the most beautiful hikes in the world. ![]()
